Initiated 6/21/05; first posted 1/26/06.... This composition is a primitive beginning to the sharing of my thoughts on this profoundly important subject. I will supplement this periodically.... as additional ideas and understanding come into focus.

The following composition is an expression of the author's understanding of "Why God came into the world as a human-being".... or, perhaps more precisely, "Why God sent Jesus into the world."

These are my personal opinions, which I am "documenting" for my own satisfaction. As I have indicated, repeatedly, in other parts of of my Internet Book.... I never debate my "religious" and spiritual thoughts and understanding.... with "others". I have no interest in attempting to persuade anyone to "believe" what I have been allowed to "decipher", in my lifelong spiritual journey and quest. I make no claim to have achieved ultimate spiritual "truth".

If a reader disagrees with my spiritual understanding.... that reader should sit down, and attempt to write-down his own beliefs, for himself to read.... for his own reflection and consideration.... and perhaps to share with others, including me.

"WHY God came into the world"... as a human-being. These are my initial thoughts, that I hope to extrapolate.... as time passes.

A. (1.) The overriding reason that God sent Jesus into the world is precisely expressed by Jesus Himself, in Luke 4: 43 (KJV and NASV)....
"I must preach the
Kingdom of God (link) -- for I was SENT for this purpose."

Matthew 6: 33 (NRSV) Jesus speaking: But strive first for the Kingdom of God, and His
righteousness (link).... and all these things will be given to you as well.

God came into the world, incarnate in Jesus, to teach and preach about God Himself.... and about the "intention" of God.... and about the Kingdom of God. God came into the world, as Jesus, to change and "re-focus" the spiritual attention of humans.... away-from man-made doctrines, established by "the kingdom of men".... and toward God, and toward the "good news" -- the truth -- about God's Kingdom.)

A. (2.) Jesus also "preached" the "Gospel of God" (see this link), and the "gospel of the Kingdom".... as indicated in the scriptures that follow, below. (Clearly, Jesus was not sent into the world to preach a "gospel" about Himself.... and His own life and death and resurrection.)

Matthew 15: 6 (NASV) (Jesus speaking, quoting Isaiah 29): So, for the sake of your tradition, you make void the word of God. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied rightly about you when he said: 8 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 In vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.'"

Mark 1: 14 (KJV) Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the Kingdom of God, 15 And saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."
Mark 1: 14 (NEB) After John had been arrested, Jesus came into Galilee proclaiming the Gospel of God: "The time has come; the Kingdom of God is upon you. Repent, and believe the Gospel".

Mark 1: 14 (RSV) .... Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of God, and saying, "The time is fulfilled, and the Kingdom of God is at hand.

Luke 16: 16 (NASV) Jesus speaking: "The Law and the Prophets were proclaimed until John (the Baptist). Since then, the gospel of the Kingdom of God is preached.... and everyone in forcing his way into it. (Amplified Bible says: "Everyone strives to go into the Kingdom in his own way.... rather than by God's way.")

Matthew 4: 23 (KJV) And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the GOSPEL of the Kingdom (same RSV and NEB), and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.

Matthew 9: 35 (KJV) And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the GOSPEL of the Kingdom (same in RSV).

A. (3.) I consider Jesus to have been a "reformer", with various messages from God.... telling us humans that Almighty God is not a deity designed "by the art and imagination of mortals".... and that God is not a "divine being" who is owned and manipulated and controlled by various man-made doctrinal laws, rules and regulations.... concocted by self-appointed humans, or by "aggregations" of humans.... such as churches and synagogues, and other rigid doctrinal organizations. See link Circumventing and restricting God. See also Why they killed Jesus (link).

(Repeated from above) -- Jesus speaking, quoting Isaiah 29, in Matthew 15: 6 (NASV):
So, for the sake of your tradition, you make void the word of God. 7 You hypocrites! Isaiah prophesied rightly about you when he said: 8 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; 9 in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.'"

Isaiah 29: 15 You who hide a plan too deep for the LORD.... you whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?" 16 You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay? Shall the thing made say of its maker, "He did not make me".... or the thing formed say of the one who formed it, "He has no understanding"?

Matthew 6: 33 (KJV) Jesus speaking: "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness". (See link Righteousness imputed by God.)

John 8: 42 (NRSV) Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God.... and now I am here. I did not come on my own, but HE SENT me. 43 Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot accept my word.... 47 Whoever is from God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear them is that you are not from God."

Other thoughts of mine about why Jesus was sent into the world. I am hoping that those who read this document will compose their own opinions on this subject.... for their personal consideration.

B. To reveal that God Himself.... God's Spirit (link).... can indeed "indwell" (live within) a human individual. (See also Children of God; Brothers of Jesus.)

C. So that God can be "quoted", forever-and-ever, in God's Bible (link).... based on the spoken words and lessons and examples of God-Incarnate.

D. So that God could be physically "seen" and "heard" and recognized, in Jesus.... and subsequently discussed, written-about. and quoted. (See link God is Jesus; Jesus is God.)

E. To explain that God is not a scowling and retributive deity.... "keeping books".... and just waiting to "judge" and then condemn those whom He created for His own purposes.
John 5: 24 (NRSV) (Jesus speaking): Very truly, I tell you, anyone who hears my word, and believes HIM who SENT me, has eternal life.... and does not come under
judgment (link) -- but has passed from death to life.

F. To reveal that it is not human-beings, and "churches" that "judge" for God:
James 4: 12 (NRSV) There is one Lawgiver and Judge -- who is able to save, and to destroy. So then.... who are you to JUDGE your neighbor?

Isaiah 33: 22 (NRSV) For the LORD is our judge; the LORD is our ruler; the LORD is our KingHe will SAVE us.

G. Sin.... and forgiveness of sins. FORGIVENESS of sins and misdeeds is from God.... not from human-beings, or from church doctrines. (See link What is SIN; and WHO decides.)

John 3: 9 (NRSV) Those who have been born of God, do not sin.... because God's seed abides in them. They cannot sin.... because they have been born of God.

2 Corinthians 5: 16-19 (NEB) From first to last, this has been the work of God. He has reconciled us men to Himself, through Christ; and He has enlisted us in the service of reconciliation. What I mean is, that God was IN CHRIST, reconciling the world to Himself -- no longer holding men's misdeeds (NIV "sins"; KJV and RSV "trespasses") against them.... and that He has entrusted us with the message of reconciliation.

Same (NRSV) 17 So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away. See.... everything has become new! 18 All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ.... and has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 19 That is -- in Christ, God was reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses (sins) against them.... and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us.

H. "SALVATION is of the Lord" (link).... Salvation.... acceptance and "inclusion" by God.... is not dependent upon "man", or upon groups of humans (churches).

I. To reveal that life-on-earth is not the end of existence, for God's people (link). See link Not for this life only.

J. To demonstrate that God can reveal Himself, and His power.... in "happenings" that we humans recognize as "miracles".

K. Jesus was also sent to give "sight" to those who are spiritually "blind".... to awaken those who have not been able to "see" (understand) the
gospel of God (link).

Luke 4: 18 (NRSV) (Jesus speaking) "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to bring 'good news' to the poor. He has SENT me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind.... to let the oppressed go free.

Same, KJV (Luke 4:18) (Jesus speaking) The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel (link) [JNT note: the Gospel of God] to the poor; He hath SENT me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives.... and recovering of sight to the blind.... to set at liberty them that are bruised,

K. Other thoughts that I will consider and extrapolate and include in subsequent supplements to this "tablet" about "Why God sent Jesus into the world:

1. What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. (See link
The Spirit of God.)

John 3: (NRSV) 5 Jesus answered, "Very truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God without being born of water and Spirit. 6 What is born of the flesh is flesh, and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not be astonished that I said to you, 'You must be born from above.' 8 The wind blows where it chooses, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."

2. Religion by rote. This was discussed above.... and will be expanded later.

Isaiah 29: 13 (NRSV): The Lord said: Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me.... and their worship of me is a human commandment.... learned by rote; 14 so I will again do amazing things with this people, shocking and amazing. The wisdom of their wise shall perish.... and the discernment of the discerning shall be hidden.

3. Jesus statement, Matthew 7: 17-18 [NRSV]): 17 "Every good tree bears good fruit, but the bad tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit; nor can a bad tree bear good fruit." See link
The Fruits of God's Trees.

4. Jesus statement: John 12: 44 (NRSV) Then Jesus cried aloud: "Whoever believes in me, believes NOT IN ME, but in Him who sent me. 45 And, whoever SEES me, SEES Him who sent me.
And, later in Mark 9: 37
(Jesus speaking): "Whoever receives me, receives NOT me, but the One who sent me."

5. To teach that God has enemies.... and that God protects His people from their enemies. See link
Enemies of God; and enemies of God's people.

6. To reveal that God "chooses" His own. We humans do not choose God.
Jesus said, in John 15: 16 (NRSV) "You did not choose me; I chose you". (See link
Chosen by God.)

7. References to "God's people".... those chosen and "included" by God. (See link
God's people.)

8. To reveal that life-on-earth is not the end of existence for God's People. See link
It is not for this life only.

9. Some human-beings are "made for glory".... some "made for destruction". Romans 8.

10. Jesus statement, Matthew 7 (NRSV) 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only the one who does the
will of my Father (link) in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many deeds of power in your name?' 23 Then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; go away from me, you evildoers.'

11. Quoting Jesus: John 8: 42 (NIV) Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God, and now am here.... 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not BELONG TO GOD. If God were your Father.... you would listen."

12.
Prayer and praying (see link). God sent Jesus into the world to reach us about prayer and praying:
Matthew 6: (NRSV) 6 But, whenever you pray, go into your room, and shut the door; and pray to your Father, who is in secret; and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you. 7 "When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need.... before you ask Him."

13. Another reason that God sent Jesus.... Jesus was sent to teach us to trust in God
1 Peter 1: 21 Through Him, you have come to TRUST in God.... who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory.... so that your faith and hope are set on God. See link
Trust, the Step beyond Faith.

14. God sent Jesus into our world so that God could "perceive" more clearly how it "feels" to be a human-being.

15. Jesus was sent into the world to "unravel" and refute many of the various sectarian claims and religious concoctions that had been "dreamed-up" by various groups of human-beings, in "churches" and synagogues and temples.

See Isaiah 29:13 (Re-quoted for the second time, here.)
The Lord (God) said: Because these people draw near with their mouths and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their worship of me is a human commandment learned by rote; 14 so I will again do amazing things with this people, shocking and amazing. The wisdom of their wise shall perish, and the discernment of the discerning shall be hidden.15 Ha! You who hide a plan too deep for the LORD, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, "Who sees us? Who knows us?" 16 You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay? Shall the thing made say of its maker, "He did not make me"; or the thing formed say of the one who formed it, "He has no understanding"?

Mark 7: 5 (NRSV) So the Pharisees and the scribes asked Him (Jesus), "Why do your disciples not live according to the tradition of the elders, but eat with defiled hands?" 6 He said to them, "Isaiah prophesied rightly about you hypocrites, as it is written, 'This people honors me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me; 7 in vain do they worship me, teaching human precepts as doctrines.' 8 You abandon the commandment of God, and hold to human tradition." 9 Then He said to them, "You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God.... in order to keep your tradition!

16. Jesus was sent to verify the validity and the truth of the "Old Testament":

Matthew 5 (KJV) 17 Jesus speaking: Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets. I am not come to destroy.... but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law, till all be fulfilled.

Same NRSV) Jesus speaking: 17 "Do not think that I have come to abolish The Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from The Law until all is accomplished.

17.
Hebrews 2: 14 (NIV) "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity, so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death.... that is, the devil.... 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."

18. Acceptance ("salvation") by God does not depend upon
works and deeds done (link).
Romans 11: 5-6 (NEB) "In the same way, at the present time, a remnant has come into being, SELECTED by the grace of God. But if it is by grace, then it does NOT rest on DEEDS done -- or grace would cease to be grace."

Romans 9: 11 (NEB) .... and yet, in order that God's selective purpose might stand, based NOT upon men's deeds.... but upon the call of God...."

Romans 9: 16 (NEB) "Thus, it does NOT depend on man's WILL or EFFORT -- but on God's mercy."

Romans 9: 30 (NRSV) What then are we to say? Gentiles, who did not strive for righteousness, have attained it; that is, righteousness through faith.... 31 but Israel, who DID strive for the
righteousness (link) that is based on the LAW, did not succeed in fulfilling that Law. 32 Why not? Because they did not strive for it on the basis of FAITH.... but as if it were based on WORKS. They have stumbled over the stumbling-stone; 33 as it is written, "See, I am laying in Zion a stone that will make people stumble.... a rock that will make them fall; and whoever believes in Him will not be put to shame."

19.

And on and on. I will add to my "list-of-reasons" that God came into the world.... and I am hoping that you will do the same.

9/7/06; 1/15/07
At this point, I will "paste" some of my older notes on the subject of "Why God came to the world as Jesus". The notes I am adding here below were originated in 1994. There will obviously be duplication of some of the later points I have made in all the remarks recorded above.... but, nevertheless, I do want to include them here.... just in case I should become unable to assemble them appropriately in a finalized document.

(I am now in my 79th year of existence. Who knows [except God] how much more time I will have to consider and write-down my decipherings.... on all these fascinating subjects that I have been contemplating for a lifetime.)

So, pasted here is a copy of initial notes that I composed in 1991-1994. As previously indicated, there will be some redundancy and duplication of the reminders listed in the notes shown above:

WHY JESUS WAS SENT INTO THE WORLD:

a. To preach the Kingdom of God, and the Gospel of God.

b. To be an example, to be physically "seen" and heard, thereby removing doubt about about God's existence, and realness.

c. To speak words that everyone could hear for himself, at the time; and words that could be written and reported, for future generations.

d. To show that resurrection after death does occur for those indwelled by God, like Jesus Himself.... and hence for the "brothers of Jesus" as in Rom 8.... those "chosen" by God).

e. To demonstrate that Jesus was the "firstborn" of a long line of "brothers"; others, that is, who are indwelled by God, and chosen by God. Romans 8.

f. To explain how God knows that we are only human, and that He understands about the circumstance of being a "human", or a human "animal"; and that our "sins" are forgiven because He does understand about us (since God allowed Himself to become a human, and to experience the human problems and circumstances).

g. To tell us that those who are God's own do not come up for judgement (John 3, and John 5); that we are God's "sheep"; that we are attached to the "vine"; that "apart from Me, you can do nothing"; and other profound truths.

h. To die for us, to show that God knows, in a "humanly' way, about the process of death and dying.

i. To die for us, to show how far God is willing to go, for us, in understanding, in forgiving, in loving, and in suffering for us.

To die for us to fulfill ancient scriptural foretelling (to satisfy Jewish tradition). To be a "blood" sacrifice, also in deference to traditional Jewish sacrificial animals, thought traditionally to appease God, and cause God to "forgive"; etc.

j. To reveal that He, Jesus, does return ("come again", or "come back", or "second coming"), repeatedly, as the Holy Spirit of God, to indwell those who are His. See refs. (One in Heb. ch. 9)

k. To reveal that it is not because someone is born a Jew, or born as a descendant of Abraham, that he is considered God's person; and that it is not because of some external rite, or DEED DONE, that one becomes acceptable to God ("THIS IS THE WORK THAT GOD REQUIRES", ETC.); and that "true circumcision" is inward, and "is of the heart" not "directed by written precepts, but by the heart." A man receives "commendation not from MEN; BUT FROM GOD." (ALL THIS POINT IN ROMANS 2: 28 +)

l. To explain how the Kingdom of God was not just for the Jew, but for the non-Jew as well, whoever is called or chosen by God. To reveal that the "chosen " are not just Jews, but "Israelites" of the "promise". (like B 14 a. above) TO EXPLAIN THAT PROMISES TO GOD'S PEOPLE, THE "CHOSEN", THE "ELECT", ARE THE SAME AS PROMISES TO "MY PEOPLE ISRAEL" IN THE O.T. DAYS, SO THAT GOD'S PEOPLE NOW CAN "CLAIM" THE PROMISES OF GOD FROM ANYWHERE IN HIS "HOLY WORD", THE BIBLE.

(SEE: Rom 19: 24 + Even us whom He also called, not from among Jews only, but also from among Gentiles. 25 As He says also in Hosea, "I will call those who were not my people, MY PEOPLE; and her who was not beloved, beloved. 26 And it shall be that in the place where it was said to them "you are not my people, there they shall be called sons of the living God".)

m. To explain how the Kingdom of God is not just a group of rituals, sacrifices, laws, and regulations; but a matter of one's being satisfactory to God -- a decision made by God, and not to be judged by any man or church. Hence , when Jesus was baptized, He came up from the water, saying "Now is the Kingdom of Heaven", meaning that from now on, I will make it a point to teach and show and state, that the Kingdom of God is not just the Jew's kingdom, and not just for those who are born Jewish, or those who have been circumcised; but for those who are called by God, those whom God considers his "sons", those who "hear" His voice, those who understand His language. Like Jesus said in John 8, speaking to the Pharisees: (paraphrasing) "You are not God's children, and that is why you do not hear His voice, That is why you do not understand His language. You belong to the world, not to God."
NO WONDER THE JEWS TRIED TO SQUELCH WHAT JESUS WAS SAYING.

n. To be the "sin offering", once and for all time. (Add the following 11-11-91) NOTE THIS passage to follow, indicating that we do not have to go and beg forgiveness every day; we don't need to go to church to "confess" every day; we don't need to worry all the time about whether or not we have been forgiven, and for how long we have been forgiven, and whether we can fall from God's favor. Note what follows: Heb 10:11 "Every priest STANDS PERFORMING HIS SERVICES DAILY, and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which CAN NEVER REMOVE SINS. :12 But Christ offered FOR ALL TIME, ONE SACRIFICE FOR SINS. :13 FOR BY ONE OFFERING, HE HAS PERFECTED FOR ALL TIME, those who are thus consecrated." (SEE NEXT VERSE, SHOWING THOSE "CONSECRATED" TO BE CONSECRATED BY THE "WILL OF GOD".) 10: 10 It is by the will of God that we have been consecrated, through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ, once and for all." (9-18-w-91)

Hebr. 2: 14 (NIV) "Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death --that is, the devil -- 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death."

(THIS CAN GO BOTH IN "WHY JESUS CAME", AND "WHY JESUS DIED".)

o. TO FULFILL PROPHECY OF HIS COMING: Luke 4: 14 (KJV) And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of Him through all the region round about. 15 And He taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 And He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when He had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel (JNT note: the "Gospel of God") to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And He closed the book, and He gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on Him. 21 And He began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.
